Padeswood - the story

The cement works at Padeswood was opened in 1949 and since then it has made a tremendous contribution to the economy of North-east Wales.

Official estimates show that the company makes a contribution of £9 million a year to the local economy, with a direct spend of more than £3.5 million a year.

Padeswood is one of only 20 manufacturing businesses in Flintshire which employ more than 200 people.

Castle Cement is one of the biggest cement producers in the UK - with the new kiln, Padeswood would provide almost 25% of its production capacity.

Cement from Padeswood has been used at some of Wales’s most important construction projects - from the ‘Electric Mountain’ of Dinorwic Power Station, to the North Wales Expressway and now the dualling of the A5 across Anglesey.
