Milestone
for recycling
In
October, 2000, Castle Cement workers reached a recycling milestone.
At Llay, near Wrexham, the company has processed one million tonnes
of shale, a low-grade coal left over from the former Llay Main colliery.
The processed waste is used as a raw material along with sand and
limestone, to make cement at Castles Padeswood works. If the
company is given permission to build a new kiln there, production
capacity will be increased by more than 50%.
