New meeting area for youngsters

A BUCKLEY school for children with special educational needs is to have a new specially designed meeting area – thanks to Castle Cement.

Bosses at the company’s Padeswood works have rallied to the call after the Belmont School’s headteacher, Gareth Jones, asked if they could help with the project.

Gareth said: “We wanted to replace our adventure play area with something more suitable for teenage children. To be honest, the old play equipment wasn’t being used that much by the youngsters. They wanted a more informal area where they could meet and talk. We’ve got a company to design the area with seating and shade but we needed someone to do the groundwork.

“When I approached Castle Cement and explained our predicament, they were marvellous. They’ve agreed to remove the old material, prepare the drainage and provide the stone edging and new tarmac area. Without their help, this project could never have gone ahead.”

The school has been open for the past 30 years and caters for children of all ages. The work on the new play area is expected to be completed within the next couple of weeks.

Noel Williams, quarry manager at Castle’s Cefn Mawr quarry said: “Belmont School is a very important part of the local community and when Gareth Jones contacted us and explained what they needed, we were very happy to help. We hope the youngsters enjoy their new surroundings.”
