Claire
faces up to the challenge
Claire Richards is facing the greatest challenge of her working
life.
As Safety, Health and Environment Advisor at Padeswood she will
be responsible for devising and implementing new safety and environmental
procedures for the new kiln.
After seeing the workforce breaking health and safety records in
the past, she is looking forward to the task.
"The new kiln will make a great difference," she says.
"Up to now, the main problem at Padeswood has been having to
work with old plant and equipment."
The new kiln will have fully computerised production system and
health, safety and the environment will be amongst the most important
concerns.
Safety first
Claire has been involved in the kiln project for a long time - she
has been working closely with the Environment Agency to set up pollution
control measures and has developed detailed safety plans.
"Weve spent the last year or two planning for the kiln
- making sure weve got all the procedures and measures in
place," she says.
"Im looking forward to it. Its a major construction
project and its not often that people like me get the chance
to prepare this kind of project from scratch.''

This
is Claire
Claire Richards friends are surprised when they find that
she goes to work in orange overalls, with no make up and not a hint
of high heels.
But the 28 year old from Acrefair is far more comfortable that way.
In an industry which is dominated by men, she knew she had to show
her mettle from the start.
She is a Chemistry graduate who joined Castle more than five years
ago - she was Tony Allans first appointment after becoming
General Manager.
After spending much of her spare time studying for professional
safety and environmental qualifications, she is now hoping to spend
more time on her main hobby - horseriding.
